Its worse when it is on solid surfaces, like a desk...its unbearable for me on a desk. if i put a mouse pad underneath it, its becomes almost silent. if its on my bed its pretty quiet too but still there.

am i just getting screwed because of fan placement?? using a toshiba E105.

one of my HDD in my laptop started producing same kind of noise. as i have two in my laptop so sometimes it was not so obvious due to one hdd powered down. anyway, i replaced the drive and it was gone.

The only thing in laptops which make noise, is the fan, speakers, the hard drive (only if its mechanical) the optical drive (only when its being used), and the capacitors and transformers on the motherboard/power supply.

The only thing I can think of, is maybe something is loose, and the rubbery nature of most mousepads is cushioning it, making the noise stop.
Other than that, the hard drive shouldn't make any high pitched noises.

i think its the fan on the bottom of the laptop...which makes no sense in the first place. im gonna have to return this due to the simple fact that i HAVE to lay it down on a flat surface at some point and then id go nuts with this noise. omg.

Could also be the power brick. Hold to your ear to confirm. While it is plugged in of course. :GEEK:
