I've owned a G73jh for a few months now. Cosmetic condition is fine, runs well, somewhat cool (for an older laptop) and can even 'game.'

The problem I have is with the display, for three reasons.

    It's the 1600x900 model, I notice a huge difference.
it has dust between the screen and glass/plastic, which is really what's pushing me to swap screens.
It has at least 5 dead pixels. Eww.
(3.5 The viewing angles are beyond subpar and the blacks don't come in well at all.)

I use the laptop for more Photoshop and illustration work than anything, a screen is by far the most important part of any machine to me. I could just clean it out, but that still leaves the issue of the bad pixels and mediocre view angles.

I've heard of some people getting the display to 1920x1080, and I'd like to do that. I won't be installing, I have a friend with lots of experience in these things who can swap it with ease, provided the part is correct.

(I also do understand that the draw will be heavier on the 5870 video card, and I do still want the upgrade.

    TL;DR:

    G73jh-RBBX05 compatable screen that is:

Full 1080p AND fully compatible with the 1600x900 model (heard it can be done!)
    Glossy or matte, doesn't matter
90%+ Color Gamut or better would be great. I don't know all the advanced specs to look for, but something with the best color output is desired
Something with 80hz or better would be a nice touch. 120hz might put too much of a strain on this machine.

you can just have your friend clean the dust from between the screens plastic sheets assuming he knows how, and if not there are youtube videos on doing it. but if you are insistant on a new screen just be aware that their prices NEW are usually about as much as a new laptop.

and using software you can transfer all your existing software to the new machine like it had never been moved.
