    Hi,

I would like (if its possible) to upgrade the LCD on my Toshiba U300.

Im already running a X9000 cpu, 4gb ram, x25-m ssd, etc... i want to see if a higher res LCD could be fitted to the system... i dont want to buy another system, i get 14 hours battery life with this system and it performs like a rocket so there is no need for a new laptop. i just want to know if its at all possible and what are my options...

    i currently have a 13.3" 1280x800 screen...

any help would be greatly appreciated...

    thanks

    josh

Screen replacements in notebooks are possible. However, there are several issues with what you're trying to do.

    1. The only 13.3" notebook I know of with a higher-than 1280x800 resolution is the ThinkPad X301, which has a 1440x900 resolution. However, the problem is that it's LED-backlit . . . it probably needs a different LCD inverter. Also, sometimes even screens from different manufacturers need different LCD inverters.

    2. Actually getting one of those screens ^

    3. This isn't necessarily an issue, but 1440x900 isn't much of an upgrade from 1280x800; you're only gaining 100 px of vertical space, roughly 12% more.

If you need more resolution for internet, making the text smaller produces much the same effect as a higher resolution screen.

If you can't find a new screen, you can always buy a hi-res barebones notebook and move all of the parts from the old one to the new one (instead getting a whole new notebook.)

Changing laptop screens can be a very elusive issue, since separate LCD components for laptops is hard to come by, you could might as well save for a new one..
