does any one know the highest overclock on a p8600 ?

What would be the limits of the chip (theoretically)

any info would be nice.... i'm @ 3.18 .....having trouble getting higher

i also would like to know good ways for overvolting :)

my cooling is fine ORTHOS AND WPRIME running for 5 mins doesn't go over 55c @ 3.16 ghz

i either have hit my chips limits or ran out of voltage .....

I can't seem to truly figure out how to use CPU genie....

Congrats Moo that's a really low temp too! What's your room temp?

After OC'ing I found that I could run Orthos for hours without a problem but when I ran IntelBurntestV2 it showed instability in a couple of minutes. Any chance you could run it at your max clock? It runs a little hotter than Orthos but shouldn't be a problem since your hitting as low as 55C on Orthos. It will probably take less than five minutes to run with the software default standard settings. I'm curious if it's better at detecting instability or not.

    http://www.ultimate-filez.com/files/IntelBurnTest.zip

If you download the latest NHC beta, or maybe earlier ones work, you can set the 9.0x multipliers up another 100mV IINM. Maybe turn off your 9.5x too or disable IDA as you probably wont be able to go higher with that one. AFAIK this should be enough to confirm a voltage deficiency.

EDIT: It's probably prudent to not OC your ram until you've proven the CPU OC. :)

If you hit 'start', this will be the default setting and take less than 5 minutes to complete all 5 runs. :)

ok after running 2 loops my max temp was 65c @ 3.16 ghz

my BIOS let me OC to 1333 FSB so i pumped it little by little during the test using Nvidia system tools.

    i BSOD'd @ 3.18

If you go to http://www.pbus-167.com/ you can download the public version NHC 2.0 Pre-Release 06 which is fairly old and not having used it not sure how well it will work with your system. If you join the forum though you will have access to 2.0.7.3 Beta which runs as a portable and should work well.

My experience of cpu OC is quite new and therefore limited so others may have better suggestions but hopefully you should be able to see some results of increasing the core voltage of the 9.0x multiplier.

EDIT: Just had a quick look at the site forum and it seems the downloads have been taken off  Also I think it only works on 32-bit systems :(

Moo, are you OC'ing your M17x?

If you are, doesn't Dell block you from OC'ing your notebooks?

Any search in the AW forum you would know the answer :)

    Yes we can overclock

    FSB
    RAM
    and have unlocked CPU multipliers

Also can OC in the OS with Nvidia system tools

Those chips should do well over 4Ghz. Their desktop counterparts do. The problems here are cooling and power regulation, neither of which on a laptop are even close to what you can find on a desktop. Also a lack of chipset options and motherboard overclockability may limit your overclock.

Even if your temperature is well within safe levels for a cpu, the higher the temperature, the lower the overclock. I couldn't see 4Ghz being possible unless it was under 50C at load. Also, the hotter it is, the faster it is, and the higher the voltage is, the more is going to be required of the voltage regulation circuitry. That circuitry is not built to the demands of a fast processor and can't handle the kind of current that would be required, let alone provide a steady and clean enough voltage for high speed operation.

yes i understand all that but i do think its a voltage issue with my chip not heat

The Asus w90p had a 4.2 ghz E8345(t9900/x9100) and those have a 55w TDP

I just want that 1 ghz OC sooo badly i just can't make it happen ...

My Vcore jumped to 1.338 from 1.213 (normal for 3.2 underload) while running @ 2.0 ghz ? Anyone know why ?

I'm guessing this is IDA kicking in with the 9.5x multiplier while one of the cores isn't doing much.

What bus speed are you at, 366MHz perhaps? What is the normal speed and type of your ram, have you tried increasing cpu core voltage?

can't find a program to do it :(

    i have tried

    800
    888
    1066
    1100
    1150
    1200
    1250
    1333
all for different divisors to check if its the RAM and it doesn't look to be .... but its 4 gigs of 1066 RAM Ephynix (something like that )

nothing give me anything higher then 3.3 i just BSOD

what speed are you actually going to run it at?
I mean when your doing normal stuff, are you going to run it at it's max all the time?

I'm just asking so that I could get some idea of what speed I should be running my cpu.

Since im lazy and it does it automatically

I just need to overvolt this

you are actually winning, the highest record on that site is 3079.67mhz.

I guess it's sort of bad news for you to hear that.

Don't worry though because the people on that site probably did not overvolt so keep trying to push the limit :)

It's called Intel SpeedStep. There should be an option to disable it in your BIOS.

He means Engineering Sample. They commonly have unlocked multipliers, but are not supposed to be out in the wild.

Turns out the 1.338v is only avaliable to the IDA state for the processor....

Does anyone know how i could get that voltage ?

Is that 1.338V shown from an older version of cpu-z and in fact 1.2000V? The newer 1.52 release seems to display the correct VID.

I don't know if the highest core voltage on the 9.0x multiplier is set by BIOS or not, I would have thought the maximum would have been what you get from the 9.5x multiplier but maybe not, I'm still a noob at this stuff. :)

If there is no way to do it through software or BIOS I guess it would mean a hardware mod. A lot of trouble to go too, plus you already have a really good OC, but that's up to you ;)
