I believe that this is the drive that has gotten rave reviews on this board. Would someone please confirm that the following products are in fact the drive that has been given those reviews?

Amazon.com: Hitachi 500GB Travelstar SATA 7200 RPM Laptop Internal Hard Drive HD20500IDK/7K - Retail: Electronics

    CompUSA.com | 0S00157 | Hitachi 0S00157 Travelstar Laptop Hard Drive

Also, I believe that it will function in a Sony VAIO VGN-BX760 but if someone could confirm that I'd be super grateful.

    Thanks in advance!
    David

Thanks for the assistance, Deeastman! FYI, the HD is out of stock at Newegg and the price $74.78 (after rebate and including shipping) at CompUSA isn't bad.

the hitachi 7K500 is just good enough... the WD is slightly better but more expensive... also since the hitachi is out longer , there is a sense of reliability..

I've owned several Hitachi 7200rpm drives (7k60, 7k160, and 7k320) throughout the several laptops that I have used. They all performed well, and were a nice bump in speed from the 5400rpm drives that they replaced. I think you'll be very happy with your Hitachi 7k500, once you get your hands on it.

Just out of curiosity, have you considered the Seagate Momentus XT? It might cost more than what you were looking to spend, but it does give a nice boost in performance for $60 more.

I did go ahead and order the Hitachi 7K500; I didn't consider the Seagate Momentus or WD 500GB Scorpio Black as I believe the Hitachi HD will fill my needs perfectly and I really like the reliability record that has been reported for that drive. I should have the HD by Monday so I'm looking forward to this upgrade.

    Thanks again for everyone's assistance!
