    I'm going to purchase a 60GB Hitachi 7200 rpm.

    On NewEgg i see two models, a 7K100 and a E7k100.

The description sounds like the E7k100 is for blade servers.

I'm wondering if anybody knows if the E7k100 doesn't have as good shock absorbtion technology since it's designed to be stationary.

    Thanks

Neither of those are 60GB drives, I don't think you're looking at the right thing. Unless I'm missing something...

Fro Hitachi's website: Due to the ABLE power management feature being disabled in the E7K60 products, power performance will not be optimal when used in a laptop environment.
Maybe this is true for the 7k100 models too.

any1 know which is the better drive for a laptop because i keep seeing conflicting responses all over the net. the E7K100 is designed for 24/7 operation (blade servers, POS vs laptops), so supposedly it operateds at a lower temperature range then the 7K100, but power performance suffers?!?!?! thanx in advance

7K100 model is meant for NoteBooks, it has battery saving feature and not RoHS compliant. Typical server HDD models are RoHS complaint.

So, I think you need to buy this one.

Both has same shock absorption 300G amd 1000G, but E7100 is designed for continuous operation and does not have special battery saving feature which 7k100 model has.

Are you happy with your purchase? I am between the Hitachi 7k100 and the seagate momentus 7200 100GB.

I have read a few reviews that commented that the hitachi was rather loud. How does it compare in volume to your old hd? Do you hear the drive rotating, or just clicking during seek.
