Don't know how it will behave in your unibody MBP, but otherwise - highly recommended.

Though I do not personally own the Hitachi 500 GB, many people have said it is much quieter than the WD5000BEKT. I have the 320 GB Scorpio Black, and in all honesty it isn't any quieter or louder than a normal HDD.

I have been using the Hitachi 500GB-7200RPM for over a year and I can neither hear any noise nor feel any vibration from it. I haven't used a WD, that's why I cannot compare.

    Hope that is enough...

Scorpio Black is very quiet in seeks, but the spinning noise is quite apparent. No real vibration.

The noise and vibration depend on 2 things - the laptop internal design and the default Acoustic Management Mode of your HDD.

I have 2 7K Hitachi HDDs - one in Asus G71GX and the other in HP dv6.
The Hitachi in the Asus is clearly noisier but its default AAM is set to performance that gives ~5 MB/s more read speed(85 MB/s) and ~13ms seek time. No vibration.

The Hitachi in the HP is very quiet, but its default AAM is set to silent and can't be changed at all. The read speed is ~80 MB/s and the seek time is ~16ms. No vibration as well.

this is exactly what I notice with my Scorpio Black!
Seeks you can't hear, but you hear the constant "whirring" from it spinning, and I get a bit of vibration.
From what I've read in these replies, I'm most likely going to pick up the Hitachi, and sell the scorpio black.

one more thing, does the hitachi have a free fall sensor? Because my MBP has one built in.

okay just put the scorpio black in my PS3, and bought the travelstar. So far I LOVE IT! No vibrations, noise, etc. It sounds/feels like my stock drive, but with better performance. I benchmarked 90mb/s read and write.
    The original Hitachi did:
60mb/s read and write. My scorpio black did 96mb/s.
So if you want max performance at all costs, then scorpio black, if you want quiet/no vibrations, for a very slight performance hit, then Travelstar all the way!
