Thanks Phil - a little surprising. I am waiting on K-TRON's Samsung review, but was looking at the Hitachi b/c it is has a rebate a free shipping at newegg right now - only $100 after rebate.

Wow, now the Samsung is only $109 until MOnday w/free shipping. Decisions.....

I would get the Hitachi travelstar over the other two harddrives. Hitachi makes more durable and longer lasting drives than Fujitsu and Toshiba. Fujitsu and Toshiba usually release new drives to the market earlier, but they are most often not perfected. Hitachi usually releases their drives last, as they are performance tuned. Most hitachi drives are usually the fastest in their categories.

Sorry bubbatex, I did not make the review for my Samsung yet, I have been busy. I will get it up this weekend for sure.

No problem - I know how it is when the "real world" gets in the way. Really, I would like your opinion on the Hitachi, Samsung and WD once you have tested the Samsung a little. I know you like Hitachi and I have had good luck with them too. I want to avoid heat and loud constant clicks! Thanks!

Is it true that Samsung have durability issues?

No, it doesn't. As someone said before, if the company was known for such issues, it wouldn't be around today.

Actually Samsung makes very good reliable harddrives. The drive I purchased for my laptop was the third samsung drive I have ever owned, and the last two have lasted more than 4 years and still going.
Samsung is a huge company, and they make practically everything from memory, harddrives and such to payloaded, and tower cranes. They know what they are doing, it is basically 1/3 of Korea's industry.
I have had my samsung drive for over a week, and it is super quiet and I barely hear it at all. It is smooth and quiet, mostly because it has only two heads and one platter, rather than 4 heads and 2 platters.
The drive is also power efficient and it does not get very hot.
For $75 it was the best mobile hardddrive I have ever bought.

I heard in particular that the Samsung SpinPoint had a high chance of dying.

I bought the Fujitsu. It was the cheapest 320GB I could find in UK and is significantly cooler than the WD 320GB (the next cheapest). It's only a month old but, so far, the Fujitsu has shown no cause for concern.

Previously I have bought Samsung HDDs but it is currently hard to find the 320GB Samsung in the UK.
