Does anyone know if there is anyone at all selling this in the UK? I cant seem to find it anywhere.
If its not available I was going to go for the WD Scorpio Black 320GB but everywhere seems to be out of stock on this as well which is a bit frustrating, does anyone know if this is due to be replaced soon as thats the only reason i can think for noone having it in stock?

Edit: Sorry i meant to say 7k500 Travelstar

lol 84 pounds is a lot... 50-60 would be reasonable.... wait a while... the more retailers get it , the more the price will drop...

How do you know if I may ask?
I send them an email yesterday and they said that they don't have any in stock and they don't have an ETA from the manufacturer either

it says on that page: "Delivery between 1-3 working days"

But going by your information and the fact that no other shop has it they probably won't have it that soon i guess.

I posted in the other thread for this question. I guess not many people saw it.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5706872#post5706872

I'll repeat myself here, but basically, quite alot of retailers have started to list this model of hard disk, but as expected, none of them have it in stock yet. One retailer, however, says they have a "restock" date of the 15th. Whether it actually arrives on that date is unknown. Here is the link:
    http://www.morecomputers.com/extra.asp?pn=HTS725050A9A364&referer=Froogle

I think £85-90 for this drive isn't too bad. The closest competitor the 500GB 7K500 is the 500GB Seagate 7200.4, which also retails at around the same price.

On paper that's the closest competitor, but in real life the WD5000BEVT comes closer to 7K500's performance. Too bad because I just order a HP DM3 that comes with Seagate 7200.4.

I'd love to see some real life comparisons between the 7K500 and WD5000bevt.

But what I'd love to see more is the WD5000BEKT Scorpio Black.

Span.com probably have the most comprehensive selection of 2.5" HDDs in UK although, for some reason, they have never stocked Samsung HDDs.

Insight list the 7K500 but the availability is vague.

This is true, Phil. Seagates traditionally have had comparitively poor I/O, but generally score well in synthetic benchmarks. I guess Seagate has some specific optimisations for that. Hitachi and WD do seem to perform much better in the real world.

I too am looking forward to the 500GB model of the BEKT model. It should be a good contest with the Hitachi drive. Does anyone have any information regarding release on that one?

Hi all, here in Italy too the Travelstar 7k500 series isn't yet available in any store all across the country, although it appears in many online shops since the end of november.
No one of them is able to tell when it will be available.
Seems like no one in the entire Europe has yet received one of these 2.5" Hitachi HDs.

I mailed Hitachi about that, they answered these drives should be already marketed.. :(

Does anyone knows of any shop which is actually selling these drives in Europe?
(Otherwise it's possible to order from U.S. but without warranty benefits)
    Best to all,

    Carlo

I found two online shops saying these 7k500 Hard Drives will be available the 19 April 2010!!
I really can't see why this incredible delay between us and the U.S.

In some situation the 7K500 will be faster, in some the WD will be faster.

It will be very hard/impossible to notice the difference.

    Ciao

I'm looking too, but without success. The alternative is to take it on e-bay (there are 2 or 3 or more dealers or "speculators"!) at $ 129.99 or 149.99$ (original price is 119.99 $) while newegg sells it online at 109.99!

We suggest you take there, but apart from the transport costs are also expected to give you 20% VAT when the package will come through customs in Italy!

The alternative would be to take it in Germany or in England, the savings would be secure, but do not know where to take it, it seems that for now is found only in the USA market.

I am currently in the US and will bring two 7K500s to Europe. If anyone's interested drop me a line.

Just to be clear, they cost me a lot of time and effort to get and I hope to get over 100 euros.

Yes, but TD shipping is $7.00 to California where Newegg is FREE so the savings is not quite as great as it appears. Actually FRY's is the easiest for me since it is only 5 miles from my house. $100 still isn't a bad deal.

TD also has a $15 rebate dropping it lower. And in addition, you can use Bingcashback to drop another $13 off 74.99.
