Hmm, 6 hours before auction end. Should I buy it? Will it work?

I have been googling and all I find is old threads relating to laptops.

From what I can see I will be able to use software rendering on my laptop.

    well,

I didn't buy it. No one would help me

I went to bed and left it. I decided I needed to investigate thouroughly before buying.

Firstly the connector on my laptop is IDE interface so I would have been screwed. The DVD drive is SATA.

But I managed to find a later connector for the MOBO to convert my connector to SATA

    My question is still.

WILL MY GPU HANDLE THE BLU RAY DVD'S? Can I watch them in software rendering?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, I am begging for someone to help me.

It will probably connect, but then the drive might not fit inside your laptop.

It won't help with video decode, but for just displaying the video the X3100 was OK at 1080p on my TV.

With a L7500 (1.6GHz) CPU and ffdshow video decoder, some 1080p video was viewable. (did not test any Blu-ray content)

You will have to use a dedicated Bluray Player software to play the video which will likely use a less efficient decoder.

If it helps, your CPU is pretty much the T7200 recommended here.

    Thanks so much for replying.

That connector is a direct replacement for the IDE connector inside the toshiba laptops.

I have a picture of the standard Toshiba IDE connector here.

Wait a tick. It looks like the connector that goes to the motherboard is different. The connector in the IDE motherboard has a lot more pins.

My R60 had a T7400 and blu-ray drive, and it could play 1080p video just fine, but Blu-ray playback sucked because the CPU always ran at 95-100% during playback. It had issues with choppiness and stuttering during playback. I suspect the T7300 and X3100 will be the same.

    Aww man.

So would you recommend not buying one?

Would outputting it to TV make a difference? Basically it looks (looked) a fairly cheap portable way to have a blu ray player.
