This is an Aspire 3000. Like all notebooks it has a temperature controlled fan, but unlike most other notebooks this one was forged by Satan himself. The fan is on most of the time and makes a very annoying sound, even while surfing. It turns on at 42 C so to keep it lower than that, I constructed my own cooling pad. I simply connected a fan to a USB port and sticked it where it was hot. Just connect the fan's red and black wires to the USB's red and black. The USB dillivers 5 V so the fan goes nice and slow.

It worked surprisingly well. The temp is mostly at 38-39 C but I haven't tested it for longer than 1 h yet. I can only hear the fan if I but my head close to it. I found out the fan worked best if it sucked the warm air out of the computer instead of blowing cold air in.

What an innovative idea - great thinking! Sounds like your notebook is really cooling down.

    Anyways, thanks for posting!
