Hey guys I have a RCA 52" HDTV. I was wondering if it'd be possible to hook my notebook up to it and use it as a monitor for gaming? Lol this is probably a stupid question but that'd be awsome. My TV does have one of those blue connections. I don't know the name of it but it's blue has two bigger nuts on each side and a bunch of little holes on the inside of the middle part.... no I'm not mentally ill.

    Thanks,
    -Taylor

im pretty sure thats a vga port, meaning if your laptop has the same port, then you can hook it up that way - and most laptops have a vga output

also, your laptop probably has an S-Video port, whcih means u just need a svideo cable and that will also work.

vga will be better though if you can use it

edit: your laptop has both after actually checking - so if your tv has vga, use that, if not, svideo

Will I lose any quality doing that and will it be any harder on the notebook? I've heard some people say that using a higher resolution will put more stress on the GPU will using the HDTV put more stress on it?

    Thanks,

Yes.. but only because it is a higher resolution. Will the added stress be noticeable? probably not. It's definitely nothing to worry about. Use the VGA port, your computer will be perfectly fine.

If you want to get more performance, I suppose having something displaying on the laptop screen and your TV will put slightly more pressure on the GPU, so you could set it to not display on the laptop when its plugged into the TV. But that is being extremely nit-picky about performance.

If I can get at least 25-30 fps I'm happy.

    Thanks everyone,

please do keep in mind that you wont be able to run the game at all resolution settings. Youre HDTV will probably auto configure the output on screen to be 1280 by 768 or even 1024 by 768. When i hook up my tv in the same fashion i usually run a dual monitor setup. Meaning ill watch my streaming content on the big screen. and do all my web surfing and msn on my laptop screen.

If your TV is 1080p and it actually ends up displaying 1080p with your connection, then the resolution will be only slightly higher. If it is anything else, then it will be lower.
