I would say maybe 4 years, but after 2 years it wont be as good as new. Also it depends on how will it was treated, I've heard running your comp with a full battery while plugged in all the time can lower it's life.
-
wow, so its better to let it run off the battery for a while than leaving it plugged in eh?
-
I think 4 years is too long, how much will you be using it? I think you'd notice a big decrease in capacity after 1.5 years of regular use.
-
i will be using it alot actually, but i will be near a power outlet most of the time

If you are going to be using say 70% of the battery 5 times a week, you can probably get about 2-2.5 yrs out of it.
If you are using it much less, you can probably get 4 yrs or so out of it.
Most batteries are claimed to be good for 3 years, but many can say that they dont last that long.
I have some laptop batteries which are 12 yrs old, and still work as good as new. My good ole Intel 386 laptop keeps chugging along and can get 40 minutes of power on the battery, just like it did when it was new.
Check out the battery guide for more information.
I disagree with alot in their about storing and charging, but its good for most people.
On an electrical level, their is nothing worng with storing a battery with a full charge, or leaving the battery in all of the time.
