Please advise me if i posted this thread in the wrong section of this forum.

Hi i currently own a Gateway T-1616 with a slot loading DVD drive.
I want to know if there is anyway for me to stop it from making the noise (usually abt 2 seconds long) when ever i turn my laptop on or wake it up from sleep?

I know the noise is normal but i would like to stop it because when i open the laptop during a meeting it is distracting...

Please let me know if you can help.
    Thanks in advance!

Make sure that it is not the first boot device listed in the BIOS.

If you go into Device Manager, you can shut off the optical drive.

    To get to device manager,
right click the "my computer" icon
than go into the "hardware" tab

than click on the button labeled "Device Manager"

Find your optical drive in that list and right click it and select Disable

Try the Bios and see if whether you can disable it from there... Or you could put it under a pillow if things simply just won't work.
