I know that most of the 15.4" ones are pretty subpar in terms of brightness, color reproduction and overall quality. How are the 17" ones?

I have a 17" Wuxga, and it is an amazing screen. It has a low response time, and its very quick. The contrast is great, and the brightness is very even across the screen.
I am talking about the screen on my Voodoo

Where are you drawing that from? The 15.4" WUXGA panels I have seen, in their defense, have all been matte and had 'decent', as in balanced, color and brightness. I would definitely not call them subpar.

Of course, monitor judgment is almost entirely subjective . . .
