    I have an HP DV6449US with an Hitachi Travelstar 5K160 HTS541616J9SA00 HDD in it that I want to replace with a Western Digital Scorpio WD1200BEVS.

    I wrote Western Digital an email and I am awaiting word but in the meantime I'd thought I'd ask you guys;
    How can I tell if the WD will connect properly and work in this laptop?
    I looked at the pictures and they appear different at the connection point.
    What are the different types of mounting options with laptop HDD's?
    They are both SATA drives.

    Thanks

    If they are SATA and the same size they should fit and work simply. Attach pictures of the connection points if they are different.

    Now that I look closer it appears they are similar.
    I am learning about laptop hard drives.
    Thanks

    As long as they are both SATA drives it can be swapped. You have to unscrew the bracket from the original and place it on the new one and also pull out the plastic piece in front of the old hard drive and place that on the new one.

    I've checked both of those models, they are indeed SATA. So the WD will work.
