How come my 840 EVO performs very bad when using the IRST driver?

If I google about installing IRST driver, most forums say that even if you are not running a RAID setup, it is suggested to install the IRST driver.

I did a test with the default msahci driver after installing the Intel Chipset Drivers 9.4.0.1027 and here are the results:

but with the IRST Driver 12.8.0.1016:

I do have RAPID mode enabled seems like it doesn't like the IRST driver but it doesn't make sense, how could the IRST driver affect RAPID's functionality that bad?

Rapid Mode is effectively a "smoke and mirrors" performance boost which uses some RAM as a cache. That's how it gives speeds that are faster than the ~550MB/s limit of the SATA 3 interface.

It evidently trips up once IRST gets involved in the flow of data. However, this might be affected by sequence in which you have installed the software. Did you try disabling Rapid Mode, rebooting and then re-enabling Rapid Mode (and rebooting again) after installing IRST?

    thanks for the info.

Yes Indeed I have, I disabled RAPID, rebooted, then renabled it, rebooted, doesn't make a difference at all. I don't know why doesn't RAPID play nice with the iastor controller driver when every forum on the web suggests instlaling IRST regardless whether you have a RAID setup or not.

I know the benchmarks are just those of my RAM Cache, but still, that's what RAPID is all about so I would like to make use of it.

I am fine with not installing IRST, just wanted some technical explanation from the pros (you guys)

I think the software from Samsung don't like IRST, at me after I install Samsung Magician on my 830 samsung ssd, I find errors when I give optimize from Magician, well I just ignore and use my laptop(anyway , I think it is the fault of Samsung software, after some google)...

I can't wait till the next Magician update, it's been a while since we've seen an update of that buggy app

Not all the benchmarks show the advantage of Rapid Mode as you can see from my results here. The results from ATTO, in particular, were all over the place.
