    Hi,

I just purchased an 8710w but my battery doesn't last for longer than 100min and in the reviews i've read that it can last for a lot longer. How do i put it into power save mode and what can I do to get the most operating time out of the battery? I'm using XP.

Also is there a program I can use to check whether or not my battery is functioning properly?

    Regards
    Thomas

Go to control panel, and click power options. change it to power saver.

For the program try NHC(Notebook hardware control)

there's no power saver option. there's only home/office, portable/laptop, presentation, always on, minimal power management and max battery.

where do i get the notebook hardware control?

I think minimal power is the same as the power saver option.
I don't know why you have different name for power saver.

The link(It checks how much wear and tear your battery has)

Max battery mode is the same as power saver.
It forces speedstep/cool and quiet to run, so that the processor runs at a lower clock speed, thus generating less heat. This pwoer mode also gives one more battery life cause the processor is running at a slower speed.
