Ok, so a while back I decided to dualboot and add XP to my vista. So I went into disk management, took about 30GB off my 100GB vista (C:]) partition and made it free space. I then got XP and so on, but now I found that I don't really need all the 30GB I put on the XP partition (D:\). However, when I try to readd some of the space back onto the vista drive, the 'Extend Volume' button is greyed out. So how do I re-add extra space onto my C drive?

You have to partition the extra space within D: out, and then merge that partition, lets say, E:, back into C:.

I think something's wrong, because whenever I right-click on the unallocated space and choose 'New Simple Volume" and go through the wizard, I get an error message saying 'There is not enough space available on the disk to complete this operation'. I get this message no matter what volume size I choose. Also, when it fails, when I try again the letter I chose previously is no longer availble. So what happened to these drive letters?

Try a specialized partitioning program...it will give you better control, better results and better overview of the actual state of your partitions
How do I add more free space into my C:\?
