Hello
I had an unmountable Boot disc error message on my Dell inspiron e1505.
I have all my discs and thought I could replace this HD myself - it is a 40GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive.
I wanted to buy a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST380815AS 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM but am not sure it would fit
I cannot figure out if the actual size would work and I have no idea what the connection is - I have what looks like the typical plug and play flat connection with the gold metal rectangles....I know, I know I have no idea what I am doing - But I know enough to ask these questions before proceeding![]()
thanks ever so much if anyone can guide me![]()

As long as it's a 9.5mm drive (99% are) it'll fit. The only problem I see is if you get a SATAII drive, you might need to adjust it to work with SATA I.

Hello
SImply put any standard laptop 2.5" sata HDD will happily go in your laptop. I would say due to the ever reducing costs it would be better to be looking at 160gb upwards as these can be had for approx £38.
M17: 3870 x2 XFire: Dual 500gb 7200HDD: 1920x1200: 4GB DDR3 -
Thank you first and foremost for your time
So, I don't have to measure the actual opening? I don't have an IDE but a ATA for connection?
I thought if I ramped up the new HD too much the processor or rham limitations would make any extra I bought useless. I appreciate the limited space in a laptop for upgrading and dont want to have to fiddle with anything...only figured out how to do some of this by watching youtube segments - LOL they were pretty educational -
No, you don't have to measure anything. If you don't want to worry about settings, any Hitachi drive should work. I'd recommend either the 7K320 or 5K320.

I have the E1505, it supports all 9.5mm thick SATA drives. I has no problems reading SATA 150 or 300 drives. It recognizes 500gb drives as well.
I recommend these drives:
320gb 7200rpm:
Hitachi 7K320
WD3200BEKT
500gb 5400rpm:
HTS545050B9A300 (5K500.B) - Please note the 5K500 will not fit, only the 5k500.b will
WD5000BEVT
If you live in the USA, zipzoomfly has the 7K320 on sale for $50 after rebate, which is basically as good as it gets for bang for the buck
I have a 7K320 in my E1505 and it s a great drive, has just shy of 2400hrs on it.
