I am looking to get a HP 9000 series laptop.
I need to know if I can get it with a single stick 1GB of RAM so I can easily (and a lot less expensive) upgrade to another single GB stick at a later date.
Also, please explain DIMM and how I know what to get.

I know that users can customize to select 1 DIMM of 512 memory (I am pretty sure that 1 DIMM is 1 stick), but I didn't see a 1 DIMM 1GB option.

maybe the laptop does not support 1gig sticks.

New HP and Compaq laptops support up to 2GB of memory across 2 slots (Not sure, but something about the business models being able to handle 4MB?). I have a Compaq, and the HP/Compaq company is really bad about having a single memory stick. I think if you really want it you would have to make a call and barter over the phone?

You can't order the dv9000t with a single 1GB stick. HP sells their laptops with 1GB of RAM in dual-channel (as in, two sticks) only configurations from what I can tell.
The dv9000t uses 200-pin, DDR2-667 (PC5300) SO-DIMM RAM. You can find it at various online retailers (where it is cheapest, around $100 - $120 per 1GB stick), such as www.Newegg.com and www.ZipZoomFly.com. You could order the laptop with the minimum RAM - 2x 256MB sticks - then take out one of the 256MB sticks, and put in a 1GB stick. That way, you would have 1.25GB. -
I don't know if Intel can do that, but AMD TL-xx does support single stick in 667. Dual channel will not boost you much if you don't play game.

As Chaz said, HP does not offer that option when ordering. The best way to go is either buy a low amount of ram, or buy the 2x512mb sticks and sell them on ebay and order yourself a 1gb stick.

That's what I did. I order 512MB(2 Sticks) when HP had free upgrade from 256MB. It just matter of time waiting cheaper 1GB 667 from market.
How do I get single stick 1GB RAM from HP?
