    isnt spdif the same as optical? o_O

    Thanks, I didn't know that S/PDIF out was optical and thought you can plug in your regular 3.5mm plug speakers into it.
    Do you think I might have damaged the S/PDIF out port? Or is the S/PDIF plug is the same as the 3.5mm audio plugs?

    S/PDIF doesn't have to be optical. The digital signal can be transmitted by coax cable also.

    I don't know your laptop, but chances are the S/PDIF signal those speakers you mentioned accept is via non-optical methods.

    optical or S/PDIF is essentially the same, but as stated as above s/pdif can also be coaxial. I use a z-5500 to with optical but it also has an digital coaxial connection (looks like RCA but it is only one) or the 6 ch direct connection which is 3 x 3,5mm jack.
