I bought a Option GTM378 to put in my XPS and would like to get the GPS working.
Device manager doesn't show GPS but it definitely is the GPS one and I have connected both aerials.
I had fun whilst installing it as Windows thought it was a CD ROM device anyway, after alot of messing about, I got it installed.
On Options site they have a section; Option - How to enable and use the GPS functionality on your GTM378 module? but mine is not present in device manager...
Any help or ideas will be much appreciated.![]()

Are you using Windows 7, by any chance?
-
Yes mate. Specs below...
-
Well I have neither Win7 nor GTM378, but a handful of people here were attending to this problem just a while ago (page 2 has the most info I think). Seems to require new firmware and a driver available at ASUS website. Good luck.
-
Excellent thanks for that. I'll have a good look now.
-
Good info but not what I'm looking for unfortunately
The mobile broadband works a treat - it's just the GPS I am trying to get working now. -
Oh, so by
-
Yeah, sorry should of been clearer.
The mobile broadband side of it works perfectly, I'm just trying to get the GPS working... -
But you do see the "Application interface", right? that's where you turn the GPS interface on, so open that port in Hyperterminal, Putty or similar. There issue the AT_OIFC commands as instructed by the page.
And one more thing: If you're running any software that controls the card (GTConnect, etc..) you might want to turn it off while you're configuring it - I think the port may only be used by one program at a time.
To complete the configuration, you need to power-cycle the card, so turn of the computer for a few seconds (a reboot should be enough, but you never know...) -
The only application interface I see is GTConnect.
The GPS does not appear in device manager or sensors...
I downloaded Hyperterminal but there is no record of the GPS card. (probably cause I don't know the port?)
Is there something else I need to download or...? -
Look closer at the picture on that page - by "application interface" I mean the other serial port that should be available. Do you see that?
-
No, I have the other 4 but no sign of the GPS interface.
That said, the card came up as a standard CD ROM device at first until I loaded the GT Manager... -
Oh and mine comes up as 'GlobeTrotter HSDPA Module'
Don't know if that has any relevance? -
The application interface is one of the other 4 - it's right there in the picture. Did you even read the instructions?
-
Ah... Um....
***runs away quickly leaving some rep*** -
Right, got all that out of the way which has presented me with a new problem.
It's showing up in device manager as 'GlobeTrotter Module HSDPA Smart Card Interface'
Windows installed it's own driver which says it's from Option...
What do I do now? -
Hm, seems like you enabled something else. I don't have a GTM378 to know what it should look like, but send AT_OIFC? to the modem and paste the reply here. While you're at it, send ATI to check the firmware version and also paste the reply here.
Did the GPS interface show up or not? -
It did, but showed up like;
GlobeTrotter Module HSDPA Smart Card Interface -
What was the response to AT_OIFC? ?
-
It won't let me type or copy n paste anything onto it now.
It must be opening the port cause it doesn't give any port errors.
It almost matched the picture on the Option site of HyperTerminal apart from my code came up AT_OIFC=1,1,1,0
Then I changed the 0 to a 2 and it said OK. That's when Windows reported new hardware found and installed it (as a smart card interface!)
I am wondering if the problem is Windows - not seeing a GPS but a card reader.
When I first installed the card it thought it was a CD ROM device...?
It was only with the help of GT Manager it installed it correctly.
Just tried a few different ways of reinstalling GT Manager to no avail. -
That is very strange.
I can only suggest you find somenone who has the GTM378 or contact Option support: Support | Option
-
...Bugger!
OK thanks for all your help anyway mate -
Edit that. Just got it working again. Seems it must of changed ports...

Were you able to get this issue resolved? Anyone can help please?
I also have the very same problem. Not getting any com port number for the "GPS Interface". The mobile broadband side of it works perfectly, I'm just trying to get the GPS working...
I was following the instruction from Option site (Link: Option - How to enable and use the GPS functionality on your GTM378 module?).The only discrepancy I have with the instruction is the Driver version mentioned in the "Related documents". They said... "Before starting, make sure that you have checked that the following conditions are fulfilled: Driver version 4.x.x.x is loaded on your system to communicate with the module."
Where my Driver version is as follows.
Driver 3.2.1.3
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Gtm51Irp.sys
I cannot upgrade to latest Driver version from Option site. The driver they have there just doesnt recognize my device card and doens't get installed. I had to install the driver through GlobeTrotter Connect 2.3.0.630 installation program. Downloaded from... http://www.goezshopping.net/DRIVER/gtm380/GTM378.zip. This link was provied by the ebay seller where I bought this card from.
Device looks working... following are the response I get back from it.
ATI
Manufacturer: Option N.V.
