How the hell do I install Intel Rapid Storage Technology?

I saw the Intel drivers were recommended, so I checked my Crucial M4 driver, noticed it was Microsoft (like i figured it'd be), downloaded IRST, installed it...but I still have MS drivers installed. And I ended up with some stupid Intel program thats managing my drive or something lol.

How exactly do i do this?

    Thanks!

    in device manager:

    Disk Drive drivers are microsoft

the ide ata/atapi controllers--the intel(r),,ect,, sata ahci controller is where the irst drivers are installed, they are chipset drivers, in this case sata chipset drivers, lots of chipset drivers,,lol.
    ___________________________________

chipset drivers enable the hardware items to work with operating system drivers so that applications can be run...

either an intel irst exe install or update the ahci driver from zip without exe

Ah, nevermind, i was looking at the disk drive driver, not the AHCI driver. Thanks. :D

Can I uninstall this stupid program, or does it have to be installed for me to get the benefit of the drivers?

    Reps!

Microsoft driver is not removable,M$ updates these by service pack sometimes,,mostly by new op sys,,windows 8 will have a updated one,,Win XP driver catalog is ata only no sata support--F6 install-when installing xp,,win 7 has sata in its driver catalog-thus its an upgrade from XP.

    Cheers

Get those: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...duct=IntelĀ®+Rapid+Storage+Technology&lang=eng and install via the device manager afte uninstalling the RST software suite, i don't see any reason to uninstall the RST software though, you can disable the tray icon and it's not like it's eating away at your computer resources anyways. If you are wondering why you get the exclamation mark saying that RST isn't working on the tray icon at startup, that is because the service is set to automatic (delayed) start.

There's different ways to install the Intel RST.

I install the f6flpy version during clean installations of Windows 7 at the add driver screen.

When a new WHQL verion is available I also use the f6flpy version and update manually in Device Manager IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers>SATA AHCI Controller>diver.Update Driver

Sometimes from a site like station-drivers.com there will be a 7z file that when unpacked will produce an x64 folder that contains the same files as the x64 f6flpy from Intel downloads.

There's also an RST exe file that installs a lot of extra baggage that is not needed by the average user. The Intel console is one of the extras.

Presently 11.0.0.1032 is latest WHQL and Official version.
