Hey all,
I am going to install my new hard drive soon. I am worry about static. How do I protect my laptop from static?
My floor is marble. I am wearing short sleeves and sweat pants. Anything else?
TIA.

Your laptop should have insulation on the inside of the chassis. My laptop, a Toshiba Satellite A70, is a model known for "random" shutdowns, freezes, lock-ups, etc, but on the Toshiba website they offered to fix this problem by adding a insulating material on the inside of the chassis. You shouldn't have to worry about static, but then again you can always ground yourself before touching it.

Thanks.

If it's just installing a hard drive, you can just wash your hands and touch a metal surface before working. You shouldn't need anything fancy.

Awesome, thanks, I will do that.

Sucess.
Question: When I look at the HD's pin, there were 4 pins that are not connected, what are these pins?
JC -
Those are jumpers, you don't have to worry about them.
-
Ahh. Thanks.

Genrally, a fool-proof way to be static free is to ground yourself via a n anti-static wrist strap like the one Belkin offers. It's about $6. I got one for my desktop since I dig inside often.

Too bad I already installed it w/o the wrist band. And it worked perfectly, and faster.
