I've never opened up a laptop, but I need to now. I need to remove the hard drive, do a few things, then put it back in. My laptop is an HP Pavillion dv5-1000 (KQ574AV). Any relevant general resources or guides and especially any help specific to my case would be appreciated.
Thanks

Once you find the HD its as easy as taking it out and putting it back in. watch you dont snap off the SATA pins, Pull straight out, not up( if the sata cable is attached to the chassis ) if not, then pull up
-
Just take the back cover off with a small phillips head screwdriver, and the hard drive should be somewhere down there.
Will look something like http://cdn.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/hd_nh500s_1-480x333.jpg (edited to be correct SATA instead of IDE)
Just pull the Sata cable (should the the thing connecting the hard drive to the mobo, on the right / bottom side of the picture above)
Here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00626329.pdf download that then go to page 93. -
What hard drive do you have? it probably will not look like the one posted above.

the picture s2odin posed is a IDE Harddrive. Since 2003 harddrives are ATA (SATA)
Here is a comparsion of the two yours will look like the on on the left:

And I threw up the PDF user guide for him to look through. -
^ gotcha, Both HD look the same just different pins.
Right, the SATA cable is pushed into the harddrives pins so dont just pull it off !!! pull UP. learn from myh mistakes i busted a brand new 500gb HD by snapping the pins of in the end of the cable!. PSU paid for it tho -
That was simple. Thanks DboogieC and s2odin.
How do I remove the hard drive from my laptop and then put it back in?
