When I boot up my Acer Lightnote Laptop, CMOS Battery Error comes up. The computer stops there. It does not completely boot up. What do i do to repair this problem? If I must replace CMOS battery, where is it located in the computer? Thanks I appreciate your responses...alan

The bios battery is usually mounted directly on the motherboard on most laptops. The message means that your bios battery is dead. You will hvae to take your system apart, find the battery and then take a soldering iron and remove the battery. Find or buy a new bios battery and solder it back to the board.

Thank you for your reply. In regards to location, I have taken my laptop apart and looked for a battery. Can you help me with identifying it. Im very new to this so please bear with me. I can give u a brief description of what i found. I found a removable board which does have a round battery or what resembles a battery in it.This boardis incased in a metal casing located at the front left side of the laptop. Its demensions are 4" in length 2" in with and half inch in thickness. Is this what Im looking for?

the CMOS battery looks like a watch battery. It also may look like a dime or a nickel. it'll will be obvious when you see it. replacement cost shouldn't be more than cost of replacement watch battery (no more than 10-ish bux).

Shana476,you need to ensure that when you are soldering in the new battery, that you don't solder it for too long (more than 4 seconds) or you will damage the other components on the motherboard.

Not all laptops have a soldered cmos battery. Most are just held in place by clips. However, my vostro is attached via a cable (replacement must be purchased from dell).

That blue thing is the cmos battery of my laptop.

I was looking for ACER service manuals and I could not find. I did read they say in FAQ's send in. No kidding but a manual would be nice as just a watch Batt. Like said, likely on the MoBo and when you see you will know. Hopefully just "clipped" in but if soldiered make sure to use that piece "copper" I think, cord it spreads the heat. I do not know what it is called but when I broke the USB connector for my external HDD. Very frustrating hang in there. I finally broke down and cheated but don't do it on the MoBo.
