The fan in my Asus M2400E notebook has started to make weird noises when I boot the computer. After a minute or so, it starts to sound normal again. This worries me; I don't want the CPU to overheat. Does this problem sound familiar to anyone? Could it be as simple as trying to clean the fan, or do I need to get a replacement? Do I need to worry about the CPU overheating?
To me, it looks like it would be easy to replace the fan, but the problem is that I have no idea what fan to get. Asus' support pages aren't very informative, and the manual doesn't even mention what kind of fan it is. How would I find out what kind of replacement fan I should get? Could I perform the upgrade myself, or do I need someone else to do it for me? The machine is not on warranty.
Thanks for any input!
(I posted this to the Asus forum a few days ago. As my question isn't specific to Asus machines, I thought that I'd ask in the more general forum too.)

Well you are sure one lucky guy...
I have the same notebook and the same problem)
I called the Asus guys in California today, they gave me a service case number and promised to reply to me as fast as possible.
My CPU fan is vibrating for about two minutes right after a cold start...not from standby...
I seems like the fan needs to heat up and than it stops making that weird vibrating-like sound...
I searched the whole internet. I even contacted the
SUNON company in Taiwan that produced those fans, however they discontinued production of this fan. So I will see tomorrow if the guys give me any info, I will let you know
