I would like to setup three or four monitors on my computer. I want the screens to have individual properties but also be connected in a panoramic fashion. Can I add more video cards or should I get a ready made unit that supports several monitors? If so, where's a good place to look for one?

To the best of my knowledge, that's the only way to run more than one external monitor from a lappy. -

You can buy those usb "video cards" for about $40 each which can output resolution up t0 1080P i think. You can add as much monitors as you want provided that you don't run out of usb bandwidth and cpu power. Those monitors can handle 2D and simple 3D graphics with ease, but don't expect it to be able to handle crysis at 30FPS at 1080P resolution.

I tried building my own multi-monitor computer but I got a lot of crashes etc. I finally broke down and bought a really nice Quad Monitor system and it runs great. Here's what I got and I'm really happy with it:
Multiple Monitor Computer
Quad LCD Multi-Monitor Display
It pretty much looks just like this following video, except that the bezel is black on mine....
Quad Monitor Computer Video
It all cost about $2,500 with the computer and Quad LCD Display.
I hope that helps! -
Matrox is the state of the art in multi-monitor displays. They do 2D and extreme-accurate resolution 2D (think medical imaging) very very well on top of their multi monitor work.
