This thread in the Acer forum will lead you to the manuals here. However, I don't see the 1691 listed, so you will have to look through other guides (I suggest starting with the 1670) to find something similar.

Before you go any further, check in Device Manager to see if the optical drive is on the secondary IDE channel. If it is, good. If it shares the primary IDE channel with the HDD then the ODD will need to be set to slave. This is usually set in the firmware (the alternative is to put a jumper on the HDD so it becomes slave).

However, I have looked in the 1670 manual and although it identifies all the part, it does not give detailed disassembly instructions. You will usually find that the optical drive is held in place by one or two screws in the bottom of the computer. These may be identified. Another possible location for a fixing screw would be underneath the keyboard. The diagram on page 2 of the 1670 manual suggests one fixing screw at the back of the optical drive.

Once you have removed any fixing screws, try to pull the ODD out. It will probably be held by the electrical connection which can be released with moderate force.

With the ODD removed, compare the new and old ODD and remove / transfer any fixing brackets and adaptor for the electrical connector (if any).

The other component to transfer is the fascia plate. This is held on by a series of plastic hooks (see the attached photo) which can be carefully unlatched with a small screwdriver. The fascia should then clip on to the replacement ODD.

Reassembly is the reverse procedure. Push the ODD into place then put in the fixing screw(s).

Hope this helps. Please give feedback on your success (or otherwise).
