Just wondering, if you wanted to get an mSATA SSD, how would you know your laptop supports that. I think my laptop was a bit too old to support it now, but say if you were on the market for a new laptop, like a Sager 8150 or Envy 17, would they support mSATAs?

Would need to carefully read the specs for the specific model you are interested in.

I've really been looking at the HP DV6T/DV7T Quad-Core, I really want the 15.6" version but if I cannot get some type of dual-drive support (via mSATA), I'll probably end up getting the DV7T. They really don't publicize this, would you happen to know if they support it? I know the HP Envy 14.5" does but the screen on that so trash, I might as well just stick w/what I have.

If you do not see mSATA support it most likely is not supported. However, if you have an extra drive bay in your laptop, and absolutely feel you must have an mSATA (vs. a normal laptop SATA) drive, you could always go this route - http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/619130-msata-support-clevo-laptops.html#post8010175

As stated above by jclausius, if you're set on the DV7 I wouldn't worry too much about a mSATA slot since 2.5" SSD's are usually better in performance and features compared to their mSATA counterparts plus you'll have so much more choices to choose from with a 2.5" SSD (Crucial does not offer mSATA solutions).

You can always go caddy SSD with USB ODD on the DV6 if you must have mobility + ODD.
Although personally, I'd just go DV7 if you need the ODD cause really 15.6" + USB ODD pretty much equals the same luggage as 17.3" with the exception that the USB ODD is optional when needed.
How do you know what laptops support mSATA?
