Out of pure curiosity I would like to know where the Intel Core Solo 1.66GHz (I believe that is the only speed it exists in, correct me if I am wrong) places on this chart:
    http://www.systemshootouts.org/processors.html
It mentions all the duos but not the solo, would be interesting to know if it is about the same or if it is better than the Pentium M 1.67MHz cpu.

    Anyone have an idea?

The Solo should be a bit faster than the 1.6GHz Pentium M. It should be on par with say 1.83GHz depending on the applications. This is just a rough estimate based on the increase in the FSB to 667MHz.

It is not really popular as most people opt for the 1.66GHz Duo which in most cases is ~$50 upgrade.
