This PCMCIA hard drive/PC Card ATA Flash IDE Adapter Reader looks to be an idea way to use the exisiting IDE hardware from the PC. Only issue I have before buying this item is: How does it get inserted into the PCMCIA slot????????

    Any Ideas????

It doesn't, the used to make (and still do some) PCMCIA hard drives that you would just insert into the PCMCIA slot. What you posted attaches to a desktop's ATA cable and then you attatch the PCMCIA hard drive.

It appears to be for a desktop. So it will not fit/work on notebook.

there are hard drives that go directly into the pcmcia slot. so it actually converts a pcmcia drive to be use in a desktop not the other way around

this is true, they are basic hardware manipulators, and they do not work very well with DMA.
I have used something similar before, but it really does not help for harddrives, its only good for using a pcmcia device, say if you just have one lying around, but no laptop to plug it into.
