tl;dr: Remember to clean your computer!
I just cleaned out the innards my G50vt after about 6 months of use, it made a world of difference. Below is a compilation of results so far:
Component Temps Before Temps After Change in Temp Time Between Cleaning Notes[/TD] 9800m GS 104C (w/ cooler)
Overtemp (no cooler)79C (w/ cooler)
84C (no cooler)-25C 6 months 91C (no cooler) with 20% CPU OC 9600m GS 100C 67C -33C ~1 Year Post temps include +525/+100/+200 OC 8400m GS 56C idle

60C load-20C idle
-20C load-N/A- Post temps include Antec Big Boy 200mm cooler
Remember to clean out your vents at least every few months! If your games stutter or lag a few minutes into play, your graphics card and/or processor are likely overheating and throttling down to save themselves.
When cleaning, remember a few things:
- Make sure you are electrically grounded before touching your computer.
- Don't use a vacuum to suck out the dust, it sounds like a good idea but it builds static charge very quickly.
- Spray air into the vents and gently hold the fan in place.
- Do not press too hard on the fan or let it spin faster than normal, you could ruin the fan bearings or the motherboard as spinning the fan generates electric current.
- If you're using a compressed air can, don't turn it upside down when spraying your computer. The liquid inside will come out and could damage some components and/or create condensation (it's still fun to play with on a desk or something if you're careful!).
I'm curious as to what the average temperature increase is over time.
So post your results, listing your component, temps before, temps after, and how many months you've left it uncleaned!![]()
If you have a suggestion for to this post, I'll add or modify what I have here.
Happy cleaning!

Okay here's a great story.
Mine wasn't cleaned after like a YEAR of use.
It was a 9600M GS, and it was getting up to 100C with no OC!
I cleaned it, and in FurMark with 525MHZ OC on shader 200MHZ on core and 100 on Memory it goes to 73C and then fans kick in and it goes down to 67C, lol
So now I clean my internals every week. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
My 8400M GS was like
56 C idle
80 C load
26 C ambient
After cleaning, Antec Big Boy 200mm cooler
36 C idle
60 C load
26 C ambient
Also stressed when cleaning:
When using compressed air, hold down the fan with an object not letting the fan blades spin. This again will ruin your fan bearings, but fans will also generate electricity if spun fast enough and will fry your motherboard. -
Nice results, guys! I put everything so far into a table which I'll continue to update.
@Bearclaw: That's a pretty awesome improvement considering the additional overclock afterward.
@Tsunade Hime: thanks for the info, I didn't think about that. It's added to my original post.
Keep it coming!
How dusty was your computer? Post your post-cleaning temps!
