    Hey all,

I am getting my new hd tomorrow. YAY. hehe Anyway, I was wondering for those who upgraded their hd from 4,200 rpm to 5,400 rpm, how fast is it? Like when you load up windows.

    TIA.

It makes quite a bit of a difference in terms of load time.

Just curious, is that 5400rpm 16mb model you're looking at a Toshiba? If so, I suggest you avoid them like the plague. Get a Seagate or a Hitachi instead.

As a general rule, they tend to run a little slower than the competition, and they do have a habit of failing at inopportune times. Mine did last September, and there are several other members here who have had similar catastrophes.

Yeah, the Toshiba's are noisy and unreliable. I am not saying you are going to have problems, but from my experience Toshiba HDD's are at the bottom of my list. Also their 16mb cache drives in most cases fail to beat Seagate or Hitachi 8mb 5400rpm HDD's.

Hope you have better luck with your drive.

Thanks for the luck. I do hope luck is on my side. My current Toshiba's hd is quiet and reliable.

Toshiba has addressed some of their HD issues in recent days. They should be reliable.

That being said, they do still underperform the competition. I would have Toshiba HDs on the bottom of my list.
