I don't want my notebook to die within another 2 years because of overheating so how low do my temps need to be while gaming.
    according to hwmonitor I get
    Gaming
    80c thrm
    71c,66c cpu
    82c gpu
    36c hd
    Basic Use
    40c thrm
    26c,29c cpu
    36c gpu
    31c hd

The only game I play is NBA 2K11 so maybe the cpu temps are high because of the game. Also I have this notebook cooler Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER NotePal X-Lite Notebook Cooler Model R9-NBC-XLIT-GP because it only came to $8 total. And the room I game in is usually around 58 F.
Its this laptop Newegg.com - ASUS N51 Series N51VN-A1 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T9600(2.80GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M and throttling is not a problem because it usually runs itself around ?3.1 GHZ?

Your idle temps are just a bit higher then mine, but I've changed thermal paste tou. Your temptratures seems normal for me. Up to 100C is the dangor line, you should start worry when your GPU hits 90C and CPU(s) about the same. You can clean the vents of your laptop tou, if you do this regularly it will save you a lot of heat :D

I wish my CPU would run that cool. :/ Your temps are fine, though your GPU's gaming temp seem a little high. That's probably just because the GPU itself runs a little hot though.

As noted those temperatures are reasonable; the GPU is a bit high but nothing even close to dangerous. If it was over 90 degrees then I would start to get worried.

Make sure you use canned air and blow out your vents every once in a while, that will keep the cooling system running at top efficiency.

If your ambient room temp is 14C and your GPU is getting 82C that is worrisome. As Charles has stated, clean out your vents, fans, and heatsinks. Just mind you when you are cleaning out fans, to make sure they don't spin ultra RPM, have an object hold down the fan, as it will ruin the bearings on the fans, as well as fry your motherboard as fans can generate electricity.

CPU is a little high, but nothing to be extremely worried about. You can put some AS5 if you are absolutely concerned.

No actually when the temperature in my house goes to 90F it still gets to same temps. But the fan speeds up obviously when it is hotter.
