I brought a 500gb hard drive a month ago and something happen today while installing a program that crash my laptop.

I started getting the Acer splash screen cut in half when I turn on my pc seem to have fix itself.

After trying 5 times to install Vista because booting into Vista would not work. I took the hard drive out and put it in my desktop turn on my pc and got this after it detect all my devices:

Samsung HM500LI: Hard Drive failure imment backup and replace as soon as possible.

I guess I will be calling tomorrow.

Wait let me get this straight, you bought a Samsung hard drive and put it in your laptop and everythign works fine in a month

so month later you start getting HD issues and you decide to plug it into your desktop to test it and you get that error?

if so that really sucks, umm based on newegg reviews it seems like they do replace them fairly well (I would back up your data before sending it off to them if possible)

all harddrive manufacturers are like that. They test what killed the drive and by any means that the user puposely destroyed it via an electromagnetic field they have reason not to replace yours.
If yours plain died clear out of the blue, dont sweat it, they will replace your harddrive.

Samsung's warranty is great on tv's, lcd, phones, harddrives, memory but I must say their camera warranty is terrible.

I don't have a box or static bag so I guess I will call. I got these errors with the drive. The Samsung test gave me this: AJ26 S.M.A.R.T error and AJ24 bad sector then when I did a full surface scan it was nothing but ERROR: LBA ??? different numbers down the sceen.

Samsung is retarded they have tech support for hard drives but they don't deal with hard drive replacement.

I had to fill out a form and wait for them to email me or call.

Update: If you need to RMA a Samsung hard drive here the infomation.

    Total Tech Solutions, Inc
    49 Commerce Road
    Carlstadt, NJ 07072
    TEL. No. : 1-201-935-0670
    FAX No. : 201-935-0672

I called after Samsung support told me to call and they set me up with RMA number etc. The only different is they don't mail you an replacement until they look at the defected unit.

I am used to dealing with WD where they send you a new drive first then give you 30 days to send yours back or get charge.

I am just happy to get help. Thank K-tron
