the whole 4 gig dim price aggravates the crap out of me. ok so its 60 bucks for two of the 2 gig sticks but its 390.00 for one 4 gig. (even on ebay) ok. go smoke some more crack memory makers.

Look at it on the engineering side. Its not easy to make it...but they learn over time how to do it easier and more successfully. Remember not every chip is actually made correctly and this adds into the cost we see as the consumer.

Too bad most people are content with 4GB. I want 8GB as well (2x4GB), but the prices are way too high and I don't necessarily need it anyway. But I'm a hotrodder on a tight budget (wait, say what?!) . Maybe Windows 8 will be Vista all over again by pushing hardware and making 4GB obsolete -- okay, maybe not. I think they learned their lesson *looks at Windows 7*.

But then again I see Windows 7 as an evolutionary step. Vista was pretty revolutionary GUI-wise, and that was apparent from the on-set. Nothing truly great save for UAC and the extras that are found in Vista Ultimate (Shadow Copies, Bitlocker, etc. which SHOULD be standard in all versions). They are getting rid of some of the excessive makeup and realizing that she needs to be more functional rather than being pretty. Those relationships never last.

Right, I need to stop.

@ ramgen: Glad to be of service. ;)

It will fall below $100 when 32GB is the new 8GB.

Hopefully SSDs will be mainstream once 8GB kits are mainstream. :D

I have an SSD. still, hibernating of just 2gb still takes very long. I hope, one day hibernating can compress it's data and/or store just the actual used memory instead of writing down everything.

and a quick-on-mode for the bios to run in <1sec to quickly get back up and running..
