I'm thinking about buying a thinkpad with a flexview/IPS LCD. It's used so the backlight will be dimmer than a brand new one, but I'm curious about how long the LCD will last.
I really love IPS panels and I'd like mine to last for a while. I'm fine with replacing backlights to increase brightness every so often, but with IPS screens out of production, it's not so easy to replace the LCD anymore. My understanding is that the backlight often fails before the LCD does.
I had an 6 year old laptop with a screen that was working perfectly i.e. no dead pixels except that it was really dim. One backlight replacement later and the screen looked as good as new. The panel is not IPS though, so I don't know if that will affect the lifespan. Any thoughts?

My guess is _atleast_ 10years aslong as you handle it well.

I haven't read anywhere that IPS and TN panels have different lifetimes, therefore I’m pretty sure it will last as long as a regular TN panel; other components will break much sooner.

your laptop will become obsolete before it breaks

Thank you for your input so far!
I know my laptop is already obsolete compared to today's standards but I got the laptop primarily for the screen, which is far better than any of the TN screens produced today. IPS is becoming harder and harder to find, so I'm planning on sticking with this laptop for basic usage - internet, office work, maybe some light photoshop or movie watching. For those purposes, IPS can't be beat. If I want to do heavy duty stuff, I always have my desktop. Or I can grab my wife's laptop, which is some kind of multimedia behemoth with a terrible TN screen!
How long do IPS LCD screens last? Not the backlight, the LCD itself
