How long will it be before you plan on buying a new laptop (either because you expect the old laptop to fail, or because you just want to upgrade) ?
Also mention when you bought the present laptop, and the price you bought it at.
Me - I hope my M90 to last for 4 yearsfrom when I bought it this summer @ 1850 USD.
I may buy a desktop a couple of years from now though.

HP Pavilion dv1000 - Bought Feb 2005; motherboard replaced July 2006 (got dropped); currently working like new.
HP Pavilion dv2000 - Bought August 2006; still working like new.
As for how long they'll last, I dunno. Hopefully pretty long, but if they don't, they don't. I plan on buying a new laptop (and desktop) before I go off to college in about 1.7 years. -
Well,my Inspiron 8600 is a hand-me-down from my brother who bought it in 2004.I'm expecting it to last probably another 3-4 years since I use my desktop much more often. Its pretty much perfect(except the weight) and the lack of USB ports, plus its loose with the dock >_>.Otherwise,its pretty much a great notebook.
I'm planning to get a Lenovo T60 come this November because commuting to College next year will be a pain with the Dell and I have a bad habit of technology wunderlust -
Sony VAIO SZ Premium : finally decided to bite the bullet and get one back in July 2006...hope to last me at least 2 years or more...but i guess we'll wait and see...price? well sony's aint cheap in aus, plus shops dun seem 2 give out discounts on sony's either...A$3600...
Apple Macbook : insurance claim, coz my old powerbook got water damaged due to a pipe burst which flooded my room where it was charging on the floor...hope to last me through the duration of my uni course...price? mid spec white model configured w/ more ram and a larger hdd i think would cost about A$2000... -
I'll say my lastest Laptop (in sig) which I bought in Aug of this year, will be "useable" for atleast two years. "Useable", meaning of Specs
I always take very good care of my stuff, so I'll can't call it. My first laptop was only 2 1/2 years ago and it still works like new. -
I'm hoping well over a few years...or when my bank account think it's time (which will probably be until the day I retire

My Sager NP5320 is now over one year old and has had no issues to speak of. I'm not sure when I will purchase a new one; it does everything I ask of it now. Maybe Santa Rosa.

I was going to upgrade my gfx's card on my i9400, then I thought to just purchase a pure gaming machine this Jan ----- now I think I'am going to wait 1yr or more so I'll say a year and a half maybe two.
-
Just got my nc8430...I'll probably end up keeping it until there is something I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO HAVE that my new notebook cannot do (other than DX10...I can live without it).
That being said, I'm hoping it will last me another 2.5-3 years. Warranty's good for that long...and I intend on using it if I have to. Given this thing's power and build quality, I have no reason to doubt it will be okay for another 3 years...last me through to the beginning of Graduate College. -
Im got a 3 year warranty on mine, and when it expires ill be getting a new notebook. Yeah it might be kinda hard to do my senior year of college, but by then I will really need a new one. Specs should treat me well for 1.5-2 years, but by the time that third year hits my graphics card will be hurting, and that would be the only reason why I would get a new one sooner.
-
I hope my X60 will last as long as its Thinkpad predecessors have. A decade here I come! *wishful thinking*
-
Two or three years until I get a new one, will probably keep it until it dies beyond repair.
-
3-4 for years I hope.
Even if I have new one, i'll keep my current machine. -

One year until I upgrade to Core 2 Duo and Vista. Then at least another 18-24 months after that.

Why will u be upgrading to C2D ?
2Ghz Core Duo is not good euf ?? -
Hopefully anything over 2 years, even though I'm a heavy notebook user I try to take care of my things as best as possible.

When did u buy that laptop ?
-
Bought HEL80 third quarter this year, for $1600.
For simple tasks, and with linux, I think this notebook will last me quite a long while indeed. I may well be banging it around more than five years from now. I'll probably buy another notebook for primary use in a couple or three though. -
Just got the most powerful protable money can buy. Specifications in my sig. Based on the new, powerful specs, this should easily last 2-3 years.
-
present-E1505-$1780-august 2006
I plan on buying a new one when the 4yr warranty rusn out.
Not sure what yet. All I know it that it will probably have the next to best parts when I configure it since the best when they first come out are very expensive compared to the not as new parts.

It's pretty much loaded--I got a great price break on it through university.
I hope it to last through college, or until I get enough money to get a new laptop
Maybe an x60 or its successor. -

Yeah nice choice Pitabread, looks like we got almost exactly the same config.
-
-
Mine too, poor word choice really. Anyway, hope Santa Rosa doesnt crush Core2Duo too badly in performance, or my notebook will look way outdated by late spring
-
HP/Compaq v2000us.
Bought October 2006 for US$500 (after rebates).
I'd like to see it last at least 5 years. I don't need bleeding edge, but I do get upgrade fever periodically. There's nothing on the horizon that I'm going to need or have to have. -

See sig for spec.
Unless my usage changes I have no need for a more powerful laptop. I guess this one will hopfully last a good couple of years, but I have a habit of getting bored and buyng new ones, so we'll see! -
Bought my Asus A8JM for 1669 CDN at the beginning of Sept. Already completed two years of my undergrad, so it should last me minimum of the remaining two years, and hopefully an additional two if I pursue grad studies.
-
well i havent got my laptop yet but its a hp dv6000z with a turion 64 x2 tl-60
and i'll have it well over 3 yrs probably 6 or 7, i hardly buy computers cause my bank account cant handle it.im typing this on my desktop which i had since 98 its got a p2 233 mghz processor in it what a beast aye lmao, so that should give you a idea on how long i'll have it, the only time i'll upgrade to a better one is when my laptop will be the desktop in terms of speed and such. -
Bought a Dell Inspiron 1150 at least 2 yrs ago, still working fine. I would expect to last another 4 yrs or 5 yrs, hehe. I did my last upgrade with this notebook, which is a DVDRW drive. I wont upgrade anymore until I buy a new notebook. But I love my notebook.
