You can use either one. Depends on whether you are willing to remove all of your original RAM(2*256MB) and put in 2*512MB or you are willing to take out 1*256MB and replace it with a 1GB stick for a total of 1.2GB of RAM.

There are two slots. The standard manual only refers to the one you can see by removing a hatch.
The second slot is MUCH harder to get to. Its under the trackpad, and takes some time to get to.
And yes, you must remove the 256x2 to get 1gig using 512x2.
But I suggest just getting a 1gig stick, if the prices are relatively same. I've been checking ebay, trying to get a 1gig stick.

Yes, but as Gecko said accessing one of them might be harder.

You can do that or just get 1*1GB module.

Yes OR just get 1*1GB and leave the other 256MB in it place. Its probably the easier thing to do.

I agree with what miner said.

One 1GB stick is about the same price as 2x512, so why not get the 1GB?
