    How much RAM do I need to use Blender 3D smoothly? I have the options of:

    • 3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
      [*]4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
      [*]6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz

      [*]8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz

    4gz of ram can run anything smoothly really, 4gh+ is just overkill. you don't even notice the differences.

    Are you running on 32-bits? I thought it causes memory addressing problems as you near 4GB.

    Also, how do you get 3GB to run in dual channel? Do they come in 1.5GB sticks, or is it 2x1GB+2x512MB?

    Nearly all laptops come with only two RAM slots so running 3GB in dual channel is not possible. The two modules must have the same timings, CAS latency, size, etc.

    All current 3GB 2-stick solutions are 1GB + 2GB, which does run in asynchronous dual channel mode.

    Most laptops nowadays comes with 4gb RAM and Windows 7 64bit.
