You should try consulting your laptops retailer because upgrading laptops can be very tricky especially in finding its components..

The Celeron M 430 is a Yonah processor, which is Socket M, NOT Socket 479. Socket 479 was used for Pentium M and Celeron M (thru Celeron M 390) which were codename Banias and Dothan. Socket M was introduced with the Yonah processors which include your Celeron M 430 and the Intel Core processors. The first generation of Intel Core 2 (Merom) processors were also Socket M.
If yours is Socket M, theoretically any Intel Core (T2050-T2700) and early Core 2 models (T5200, T5300, T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400 and T7600) should work with your motherboard. -
thanks for replying .... but the retailer here are dumb... they are not so much knowledgious... and i can get components from US..
so pls advice me ...
can i put 320 GB harddisk in it....
will external 320 GB be faster than internal 320 GB sata... -
@ allfiredup i know that.. but i want to enquire that if my chipset Intel i943/940GML will support it or not....
-
and what about hdd..
-
I am pretty sure the i940/943 supports core duo processors only, so the highest you can go is a T2500, T2600, T2700.
You need the i945 series to support the core2duo T5xxx and T7xxx merom processors
If your laptop has a SATA interface for the harddrive, which I think it does just judging by your cpu specs, you should have no problem upgrading to a 500gb 5400rpm or 500gb 7200rpm drive. You just need to make sure to get a 9.5mm thick 2.5" drive
What is the model of your laptop, just to be sure?

@ K-TRON i have lenovo 776122q .. yes my laptop has sata interface.. thanks a lot for the help
-
Since you have the SATA interface, you can run any 9.5mm thick SATA drive you want. You can put a 500gb 5400rpm or 5400gb 7200rpm drive if you like.
Stay away from the Hitachi 5K500, and the Fujitsu 500gb 5400rpm drive.
These two are 12.5mm thick drives.
You need a 9.5mm thick drive
These are some good drives to look at:
Hitachi 5K500.B
WD5000BEVT
Samsung HM500JI
Hitachi 7K320
WD3200BEKT
Seagate momentus 7200.3

http://www.intel.com/products/notebook/chipsets/940gml/940gml-overview.htm pls have a look at this...
it is saying that the chipset can have only celeron processor.. is it true.. -
Your spec readout says it is a I943 chipset, so it should support all core duo processors.
The I940 supports the older core duo's up to the T1350.
K-TRON -
@ K-TRON how do i exactly know that it is i943 or i940 chipset...
i used cpu-z and everest all says both -
I am pretty sure that you have the i943. It is part of the 940 series.
I called a processor expert, he should post soon
K-TRON -
@ K-TRON thanks a lot... i want the maximum upgradation
-
@ @ K-TRON where is ur help.. i am still waiting for it...
-
Send a PM to Andy, John Ratsey, or Tippey764, they are a bit more knowledgeable than I on the I940/I943 processor upgrades

@official
If you can disassemble your notebook without issues, check the code printed on the chipset die. That will let you know for sure, whether your notebook has the 940GML or 943GML chipset.
The 940GML chipset supports upto the T1350 max, assuming that the BIOS supports Core Solo's.
The 943GML supports all Socket M CPUs, again assuming that the BIOS supports those CPUs. -
@ andy...
yesterday i half opened my laptop but cant find the chipset die anywhere.. can u say me where the chipset is located in the laptop and how to know weather bios supports a processor or not..
i have lenovo 3000 y500 series laptop. -
above the chipset it is written :
NH 82801GBM
L6375A12
SL8YR
mc 104
can u say me what is this chipset i940 or i943.. -
Thats the southbridge, you need to check the code printed on the northbridge....which should be right next to the CPU socket when you remove the heatsink. The code should be printed on the black thingy within the red highlighted box.
You should also check out the BIOS release history and check what mods were made in the various revisions of the BIOS. Or just flash the latest BIOS release available and try out a cheap Socket M Core 2 Duo. -
i dont have any bios update available in lenovo website///
-
there is no bios update in lenovo's site.. what to do.. how do i know if this bios support c2d...
-
Those values you posted are the model of your Southbridge, you need to find the numbers on the chipset. In almost every system the chipset is within 3-4 inches of the processor socket. It should be easy to find because it should be under the heatsink
