I have my heart set on the sony FW but it comes with two different resoultions

I don't plan on doing any heavy video watching. I do however, plan to use photoshop, autocad and similar. For these application, does increase resolution matter?

    The two resolutions are:

    16.4" widescreen standard (1600 x 900 resolution)
16.4" widescreen XBRITE-FullHD™ display (1920x1080 resolution) +300 worth the price?

If you don't know what's the difference, you best go to a Laptop dealer and see just what you'll be getting for your outlay.

Because it's not much good buying a screen you can't really afford that you don't need and the same if you buy a screen that's not to your expectation and you could of afforded better.

uhm what the heck? do you not have a tv? but seriously there is no reason unless you either have a ton of money to waste or your gonna be doing things where you want things to look ridiculously amazing on a 16 inch screen... go with the cheaper res. you wont be disappointed.

$300 ?? That is too much. You can buy a much larger 24” full HD (actually 1920x1200) external LCD for less than that !

SPQR gave you very good advice.

Attempt to check out different resolutions at a B&M store. You can get a lot more real estate on a hi res screen which means that you can see a lot more with Autocad w/o scrolling around.

There's also the issue of too high of a res causing really small icons and text (probably not a prob with 16.4 but we all have our own personal comfort zone). Seriously, check out some examples if at all possible, and using your s/w or images if at all possible, too.

I perrsonal prefer higher res for the additional screen real estate it provides, but then my eyes also get fatigued more easily at hi res. :(

    A real catch22!

    Good Luck

Ok, I have a 1080p screen on my Acer and will provide some screenshots of each res to give an idea of how they will look.
