Hey everybody,
I'm debating whether I should buy a new SSD to complement a new laptop. I bought a Crucial M225 almost 2 years ago now and I'm not sure if its time for an upgrade to a Cruical m4. It still works just fine but I'm trying to figure out how much better of an experience the new SSDs with higher IOPS and random reads/writes provide.
Could anyone who has experience with both new and old SSDs comment on their experience? I know it's a bit subjective to the speed increases that one perceives, but I'm looking for a general sentiment of how far we've come.
Thanks in advance!

Not that much. The main improvement this generation is sequential performance.
The big difference is from HDD to SSD, not from SSD to faster SSD. -
still no RAID support. still the same reliability. SATA III, more speed. slightly lowered price
If I were you I would wait for the next batch of intel ssd's since it may lower prices a bit and then sell the 500gb hdd and 256gb ssd and buy a 512gb ssd like the samsung 830. -
I agree with Peon. Painfully little

Brought a 64GB C300 @99 1.5 years ago. If I spend 99 today ,would i get anything that have a performance increase that matter? not really.

That's sad to hear. I haven't been keeping up but it seems I didn't miss much.
Nonetheless, I bought a Crucial M4 to replace my M225. We'll see if I notice any difference. -
I had a 64GB M225 a few years ago along with a few other Indilinx drives, the 256GB C300 I have now seems to maintain its performance better.

MIght just give my GX640 to my sister if I don't find someone who wants to buy it.
Shame to see and i7/5850m/M225 used for just web browsing and youtube videos though.
@482741, yea this Indilinx controller has held up surprising well for me, but even though its been rock solid, the more time that goes on the less I want to rely on it for my main computer.
How much have SSDs improved in the last 2 years?
