Hello friends.
I've the possibility to acquire a new (unused) cpu, the T6400 to be installed on my Inspiron 1525 old notebook. I know this can sound a ridiculous question because both CPU's are so obsolete!! But It's a good possibility, because I'm thinking on give the notebook to my nephews.
Now, the inspiron has an Intel T2390 and two RAM working as dual RAM at 533 mhz because the CPU is downgrading it.
The question is: how much improvement should I get by installing this new processor? I think about a 15% or 20% of improvement when using Phososhop, playback HD videos, etc.
Thanks...

If you're actually CPU limited in whatever you're doing, then yes, you could possibly see something in the 15% range. Otherwise an SSD is a far better overall upgrade if you don't have one already.
Also, you might as well go to a T8100 or T8300 considering how cheap they are. -
Thanks for your answer! Unfortunately, in my country is not available higher-end cpu's, like the T8000 series... Right now, buying an used T6400 is about US$ 50... the T6400 (new) that somebody is offering me is about $75.
You don't know how much I wish to be in US to buy better tech haha
You know that using Phosohop CS5.5 the process of applying some filter is frequently being lowered, I think, due to the CPU. Also the playback of AVCHD video files is like viewing a slow motion video, but I'm not expecting to be some improvement in this area... -
There is the option of buying some T8100 but it's used, and the price is $63. I'm not trusted about buying an used CPU... but, anyway, is there a lot of difference between T6400 and T8100? (I only note 10 ghz+ and 3 mb of L2 cache, plus virtualization technology)

Find an eBay seller that will ship internationally? T8100s are abundant at about $20 on US eBay.

it doesnt matter if the CPU is used or not, it either works or doesnt. Just check that it looks physically OK and make sure it works
if your laptop supports Penryn CPUs then I'd rather find T9300. Or if you're lucky enough to find a T9500 on a decent price then get it, but those tend to sell for quite a bit more than T9300 while the performance is not that different, so may not be worth it. -

If your 1525 came with a Merom core T2390, are you sure it supports a T6400? That's moving up two generations... Merom --> Santa Rosa --> Penryn.
Most Merom generation notebooks I know of won't support Penryn CPU's. -

Merom is part of the SR platform. It's only one generation, and at least for Dell, most of their 965 machines will support 800MHz Penryn, the 1525 included.
EDIT: I think the confusion is due in part to the fact that there were both 945 and 965 Merom chips, not all of which were terribly logically named. -

AHHHHHH! How can it be at only $20.... sadness. No... don't think buying at ebay it's a good idea. I live in Argentina, and at this moments, the border is kinda closed to buy something outside the country. The taxes are so high when I try to bring a product outside the country...
Mhm... I don't know guys. Look at this CPU:
This is the one which is in sale for $63... this a worthy CPU, I know, but does not look like a well treated cpu for my eyes :s -
That's just badly applied thermal grease (which also appears to have spread badly), so I wouldn't really judge the cpu by that alone.
You can easily clean it off entirely using quality alcohol or moist tissues (after which it will look brand new) and then re-apply the thermal paste yourself (by spreading it in a very very thin layer OVER THE DIE AREA ONLY, or using the rice grain method). -
Would you buy that CPU pal?

I have seem worse processors than that work in my laptop, sager 8150.
How much improvement I'll get by changing CPU T2390 to T6400?
