I'm looking to play games like crysis on high settings..
I'm about to buy a laptop but don't know how much ram to put.
My GPU is more than capable of handling the game,
    and so is my CPU.

But how much ram do i need for great performance.
People have been saying 4gb and 6gb.

I'm guessing 8gb is just overkill, but how bout 6gb?
Will it improve my gaming experience enough so that I should spend another $100 for 6gb ram?

Is 4gb ram adequate to handle games for the next 2-3 years.
(assume there is no technological revolution in the next years)

4 GB is adequate for now and probably the next 1-2 years. My current laptop (sig) can run Crysis with almost all settings on max at 1920x1080 2xAA but my RAM isn't all used.

I think it'll really depend on how the games are written - if they are just ported over from 32Bit then 3GB would possibly suffice.
    (2GB app limit on RAM)

If they are true 64Bit games they might make use of extra RAM.
