Hi there, I've read the Battery guide ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=91846#post1696324) but it still is unclear to me whether it is better to do a full charge-discharge cycle the first time I sue my laptop battery.
I have a Vostro 1500 with a 9 cell 85Wh Li-Ion batttery. It came partially, almost fully I'd say, charged. I placed it under AC power and did not even turn it on until the battery led stopped blinking (it took less than an hour to achieve a full charge).
I then used it on AC power with the battery on while doing the usual thing you do with a new computer: almost nothing.![]()
Then I started using it on battery power only. In two days I turned it on and off several time, totalling some 4 1/2 hours and still with 29% of battery (according to the - rather inaccurate - battery icon in the tray).
Now I placed it under charge. Was this a bad idea?
Should I let it discharge until the lappie tells me it's gonna die?
I take it the 40% level is for storing the battery away, when not used.
Is it okay to let it charge now, at 29%?

sounds to me from the guide that it would be a good idea to let it run down to calibrate it.
After not letting it run down so low for a couple of months.

i dunno i dont cycle my batteries anymore.. i after a full calibration my battery went 3% dead unliek my 9 cell battery which is 0% dead but i discharged it at 40% because i dont use batteries at home.. currently both of them are at 40% =)

I don't think it will make that much of a difference to charge it at 30% - I've had the same battery for 2 years and I almost always charge it around 20% or so and I've never noticed my battery lasting less time then when i bought it.
How much should _I discharge the LiIon battery before recharging, the first time?
