If you're running a flavour of Windows O/S, I would suggest the second Tuesday of every month.
As your O/S gets updated and more secure after each MS Tuesday, you'll remember to direct a few bursts of air into your notebooks fans/ducts and it will continue to work as good or better than the day you bought it.
Good luck! -
If your laptop is operating in a dusty environment then the more often the better. Perhaps every 2 months would be best if the dust really does build up, or you could keep it in a regularly dusted area
-
I usually do it with a vacuum cleaner when I'm cleaning my room (merely press the head to the exhaust vents).
And I manually clean the insides by opening it up only once per 6 months or in a year.
Depending on how dusty the area you live in is, once every 3 months should be more than enough. -
depends on which laptop and where all I ahve been using it.
everything from NEVER all the way to every friday night -
I usually do it once every 2-3 months but really u should do it every month at least.. i'm just lazy
-
Don't ask me how my mother can clog up a laptop when I'm fine in the room next door... -
a good example is some frieds of ours, one games in a room with a cat and needs to clean it almost every 3 days, his girlfriend on the otherhand works on a hardwood desk and keeps it tidy ..... every 6 months for her.
it also depends on the laptop some seem to collect debris better in the fans and heatsinks. old HP DV5000's were bad for this as is thr current Gen MBP and Dell XPS units -
I usually clean my laptop with a blower every month and detailed cleaning every 2 month.
-
I use a vacuum too! However actual taking apart and cleaning is only when my HWMonitor reads temps that are higher than usual, and so far never. I only clean it when I take it apart for some other reason.
-
Just listen out for increased fan noise, or CPU temperature (if you monitor such things ... which you should!) and clean whenever a problem starts to arrise.
Opening the case every 2 months is overkill IMO and more likely to cause accidental damage than would occur from the slight dust buildup. -
Studies have shown that the keyboard has the highest concentration of germs in the house. So you should really clean the computer once a week and at the same time you can use a blower or a vacum to clean the vents and the rest. It's easy and keeps your notebook clean and healthy...

daughter dumped grape soda in my keyboard at breakfast, definatly time to clean it out again that stuff is STICKY
-
I dust once a month.

Computer.
(Don't use your vacuum and probably not a blower either as it can create static. Computers hate static. A lot. Canned air is the way to go.) -
People go on about this all the time... -
i think i better not use my vaccum cleaner.. its lied in the corner so long that it must be clogged with dust
-
Though it may seem little, it is enough to damage electronic components. Now, how you manage to get that charge from the vacuum to anything conductive is another story, as they are usually insulted well.
The warning mostly stands from people opening a desktop up and hoovering inside, when there is a very real chance of electric discharge onto something. -
Generally holidng a vacuum cleaner about 2cm above anything (or even 5cm and more for powerful ones) is enough. -
You hold the machine to use it, and get charged up. Then, touch anything metal in the case and you discharge that into the machine.
I've worked in and around computer repair for 10 years and you can't imagine the amount of bust computers that have come about from cleaning them.
How often should I clean the dust out of my laptop
