My HD 5650 is being bottlenecked by it so im current considering OCing it, even the i5 at 2.3 ghz shows a large improvement in performance.
How safe is it to do so given laptops run hot already?
-
OC'ing the new Intel i-core lineup is not as simple as it was in days past. Look in the hardware forum, people are using the SetFSB still and are getting some success. OC'ing is safe as long as you pay attention to your temps and understand what you are doing.
-
What laptop do you have? How do you plan on OCing it? (most laptops are locked)
-
Its a Toshiba L650-165.
Again my worry is that they make so much heat when playing games, pushing the core isnt going to help much.
However even another 200mhz would make a big difference. -
The 5650 is a mid-range gpu capable of handling most newest games on medium to high settings provided the resolution used is not too large.
I think the 1440xsomething is the max this card can handle maxed out settings in majority of games.
Why do you think the gpu is the bottleneck here exactly? -
He thinks the CPU is bottlenecking the GPU. What games are you playing? Majority games will still be limited by your GPU though and not your CPU.

As you can see in the link below, a number of games, the CPU makes a massive difference. (open the link in IE if you want to see the different system specs)
I was hoping to play Crysis and World in Conflict, but my CPU just isnt good enough.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 - Notebookcheck -
My first play through was with a Core2 T8100 (2.1GHz) and a 8800m, it ran fine at medium. -
Notebookcheck isn't a great source to be quoting from. Crysis plays just fine on your CPU and will perform no better if you have a faster one. I've played it with a T5550 and going to a T8300 made gave no benefit on a 9500M GS (8600M GT). Also, I don't believe you computer can be OCed anyways.
-
Oh okay, in that case can i expect a framerate between 25-30 on High with no AA at 1280x720p. I know it looks good on Medium, but High is just so much better.
Also, why cant Notebookcheck be trusted? -
Notebookcheck can't be trusted because there's no verification of scores.
How safe is it to OC my i3 330M (2.1 ghz)
